More stuff I don't need! Spotted these in the local CA store...had to have them! Going 'old school'! At 14 cm's and 45 grams, diving from 5 - 9' (reality is 5 or 6 foot I'm guessing...I believe they over estimate the dive depths), I think these will work well on channel cod!

It is not allowed to dive to 9 foot! The channel I fish has a maximum depth of 8 foot! Jokes aside, when the company tests their lures for depth, I think it is done under different conditions that I will use them. I just cast from the bank and it doesn't get much of a chance to get down...trolling the lure, or if one could cast it 50 metres, then it will be different. In different situations, your assumption and mine will be correct.
Yep...they stood out on the wall...I spotted them whilst talking to the sales person.

So was in the local Tackleworld today ordering some things (getting prices for 3 Samurai rods)...after picking up some stuff the other day. You know you have a problem when one of the salesmen tells me that I am crazy in regards to how much I am spending! Hell, I may even get an egi rod, you never know when you may find the need for one!
    cheers

Something I have been meaning to ask...the guys with the swimbait rods...do the long handles annoy you? I handled one the other day in a tackle store...not sure if it is my big gut but it seemed to get in the way!

Word has it we may be inline for a re-salination plant here in Shepp! That will give us some more options!
    cheers

I find you can tuck the big handle under your arm pretty easy.

You definitely want it for throwing really heavy baits. You need the leverage for them!

    Cheers,

    Sam

With normal baitcast rods I move the tip a bit on retrieve...with the swim bait rod, holding it the way I did...was just on an angle and felt uncomfortable. Something I would get used to if I go down this path.

Yeah I tend to point the rod at the water, which gives you a different angle and makes it easier to tuck the rod in.

Then the movements are more like a "twitch" where I'll pull the rod to the left or right, you don't need massive movement.

Hitting up Hazelwood tomorrow to chase some Barra, so I went and stocked up on a bit of gear!

I've also attached some pics of a new way I was reading about on how to rig hollow belly plastics, it's meant to cut down on short strikes. I'll see how it goes, I know that it makes the baits swim and sign awesome! (vertical fall versus "Nose down" drop.

Those big 190mm Swimbaits were $5 a pop at Anaconda... how could I say no?!?

Good luck on the barra Sam.

I like the look of those rigged hollow belly plastics, never seen it before. Good stuff.
