Dear Blair, Unfortunately we couldn't accept your 'Tasman Mirror Carp' because the length cannot be verified by a suitable measuring device such as a brag-mat or ruler. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but rules are rules, and they must be adhered to protect the integrity of the competition and to uphold the professionalism shown by all legitimate participants trying to do the right thing. There may be more Carp competitions in the future (the 20/21 Carp Olympics springs to mind) you are welcome to participate in - if you follow the rules! Keeping in mind, being an Olympic year, extra vigilance will be required with more 'anti-cheat' and 'spot-checks' being carried out than usual. We wish you all the best with your Carp catching endeavours in the future. CC Should be on the rules committee!
CC, maybe you should enlist the Australian Sports Anti Doping Authority (ASADA) to conduct random tests on competitors who may resort to snorting substances such as Sax Scent, S Factor and ProCure in an attempt to gain unfair advantage. Just a suggestion. Jeff
Another suggestion Jeff Perhaps .05 alcohol tests could be included to stop people from getting Dutch courage above the norm while trying to defy the odds against more honest opponents. I fear though, that might exclude some members fairly quickly. Noel Do we really have honest ones?
Maybe we should introduce a salary cap as well? None of these fancy rods and reels, just a $40 set-up from Aldi. With the Olympics being an 'amateur' event and all...
Would that be funded by IOC or our federal Government? Would a few bob each way bets be permitted? Professional now compete in the Olympics CC. Noel Remember, money creates greed and breeds crime.
Well that will disqualify a few carp athlets I know off, we have I sax scent sniffer that I know of, a few drinkers as well. I promise I will use a brag mat in future I was waiting for a special one to come in from BCF, the bmats commonly available to the common fishermen are only about 1 meter long I need one about 2 meters long. I promise to adhere fairly closely to competition rules sort of (for march 2020). Goat : self disqualifier no brag mat. caught fastest fish though!
Or....to be more professional, a 'minimum spend' on rods and reels should introduced. Was going to ask you on another thread but you mentioned blunt hooks being a problen. What do you use? From memory cheap ones but I think it would be worthwhile to spend decent money on your hooks. I am up to it....challenge accepted! Cheers Team Bender Has been known to produce green smoking boiling urine samples when forced to do so...not sure why my samples are like that.
Maybe the cost could be borne by the competitors making it so cost-prohibitive that no-one could afford to compete! CC Wonders why committees have such a bad name!
Had an idea Jeff? caught something like that a while back and posted a pic. He caught his (he assured us) in a small creek somewhere outback. Is there an update on that from somewhere? Noel
Without a doubt. What a grand effort to land such a fine fish from a small stream. I'd suggest nobody has ever achieved that before. Noel Was it a southern bluefin carp or similar?
You certainly know your fish Noel, definitely a southern bluefin carp. I actually caught it in a dam after my dogs tried to get it. Jeff
Sorry for my mistake Jeff. I thought it was in the creek. Memory's not what it used to be, yet for some reason, the head is full of not much else. I doubt your effort will ever be bettered. Noel
Thanks Blair, but I did get a bigger one about 30 years ago, a different species though. Great White Carp - a smidgen over 5 metres. Jeff
That had to come from a full blown river, not a creek or a dam. I've never seen one that big in our rivers down here. Noel
PS Ask Pete to get you another winning sized fish to use for live bait I recall you writing that you had had enough carp yet all the time you've been outfishing them all. Well done but enter the next competition. You'll slay those other skites. Noel
