I allegedly may be getting another Samurai rod...a perfect one in regards to action and casting weight, to handle trout. My trout chasing enthusiasm has returned with some isolated reports from the local area.

Anyway, of course I need a reel for it! Am after a 2500 size reel and at this point my research is pointing towards a BG 2500. I need someone to tell me it is a great reel and I should buy it! I think I can get some money knocked off the RRP which is $199. The reel will be used for lure fishing for browns and reddies.
    Cheers

Thanks for posting that Master Baiter. We've been in the market for two 4500 BG reels for offshore work, with Armadale Angling having them $40 cheaper per reel than anywhere else.
    Much appreciated.

All makes my little 1000s sound a bit poofy doesn't it

Hardly; just highlights that you know how to angle a fish while we're still reliant on heavy gear to compensate for a lack of skill/experience. :)
Besides that a 4500 beside a 12000 would make the former look like a whimps reel.

As a follow up, Tom from Armadale Angling has been absolutely fantastic. First he called to offer to spool the reels for us (it's an upsell, sure, but he was very good about it) and second to let us know he'd made a small mistake with the order. Good communications, cheerful, easy to deal with and good prices; I'll be going back.

Good to read of pleasing reports about retailers. They don't all qualify.

The BG2500 is a great reel R.B it would be perfect for the "alleged "rod but not as perfect as a stradic C3000 hg.

Just a fyi on the bit that the bail wire go's into on the opposite end the the line roller I said I was concerned that that bit of plastic worried me as a weak point I have since found out that it is in fact metal and is the counter balance for the roter .......

Do they still make custom rods. A bloke I worked with about 25 years ago told me his rod was made by them.

Not sure Kev; I went through their online store. I've just had a quick poke around in said store, but I can't see anything suggesting they do custom rods.
Might be worth giving Tom a buzz if you're keen and asking the question. He was both courteous and helpful when I spoke to him.

Fair enough. Next time I order something from them, I might ask Tom about it and will post up what he says. I'm intrigued less by the need for a new rod and more around how they'd go about designing it. :)
