I've never owned an Abu rod, but I've fished with blokes who use them. They seem to be a good stick and I reckon a seven foot 4-8 kg is as close to being an all rounder as you can get. I use a 7' Ugly Stik Platinum 5-8 kg as a jew rod, it's faultless chasing reef fish and I've even used it on the beach chucking big sp's into shore gutters.

Do you think she will take the hint, Howard?

My wife's rod is a 2-4kg Abu Veritas. I'm certainly no expert on rods, but I do find it very nice to fish with; good bite feel (IMHO), casts 75-90mm plastics well, nicely balanced.....I'd definitely recommend them.

I have has a couple of ABU rods after being a fan of their old 'Ambasadeur' reels when they were made in Sweden. Gave an ABU fly rod to a guy on this site a few years ago. I think that's where it went. These days I prefer 1-3kg sticks for plastics, in 6' 6" and 7' as I use many small lures, rather than bigger. Never over 100mm. Those rods have decked some great fish (for me they were great anyway) and they are light enough to cast all day, while remaining extremely sensitive which is most important.
