Bob is not known for his shop being open early or for long hours lol, don't know how the shop has survived since bcf opened he has lots of good gear in his shop that bcf doesnt have and expert knowledge I might nip down there (if the shops open) and get some fly tying supplies.
As the rods carry the 'Alvey' name, I would be contacting Alvey and letting them know about the poor service. When Alvey restructured, they reduced outlets that they would supply. Cheers Team Bender
Nah Bender they arent "Alvey" rod they are designed to be used with Alvey reels, and they are made by Gary Howard in this case. Sure I could have gone and bought an Alvey rod from Alvey or from BCF but I didnt want a rod that was not meant for the reels I chose, I wanted them for specific target species and specific length and line class, so I was recommended the GH rods by several mates who have been using Alvey and HG for yonks. On a side note, I have spoken to various tackle shops and some dont even know what an Alvey is!!!... I called a reputable shop in Sydney yesterday and the bloke who answered the phone had to ask 3 times what I meant by Alvey - yet on FB these guys say they are your "local Sydney Alvey experts"... I dont know if the owner knows how little his staff actually know about fishing tackle and what is currently available. Other shops just say they arent in high demand and they only stock what they have, most of which is totally unsuitable for the reels I have got or designed for centrepin blackfish reels, not sidecast reels, when I explain to them what I wanted and required most shops put it in the too hard basket, so I guess it is what it is... Anyway I cannot wait for them to arrive, should be this week either Thursday or Friday, and I hope to get them out early next week or mid week for a ting and bream bash from the suds.
Heres my latest purchase 30 gram micro jigs I am going to drop them to the bottom on reefs whith fish showing and let them sink under surface action as well as cast into surface feeding fish, they seem to work well I am putting trebles on as well for surface fish and using single hook for sinking to bottom, a massive fingermark was caught at Dundee by letting one sink under surface action.
Went into a local tackle store yesterday and came out with a heavy spin rod. It was pre-meditated! Distributed by Wilson here in Oz. Its specs are impressive, especially in regards to casting weight. It has a 'max' rating of 120 grams. I don't think I will push it to the extreme but I will be happy if it handles 80 gram lures comfortably. Rated at 15 - 30 lb yet states a max of 50 lb braid. Split grips which I am not a fan of but I will get used to them. Whilst I was at the store Terry handed over a free Doof Doc lure to me. They don't sell them there but his mate makes them. I asked him for one a while ago as I am going to donate it to NFA. They can sell it on ebay and keep the proceedings. A lure that dives rather deep!!! Then I found out that BCF had Megabass lures for $10! So I saddled up and headed off! I got 2 of the 'vib-x' (top), 2 of the 'I-Jack' (bottom left), and 6 of the 'I-Brake' lures. I got rather carried away as the regular prices of some of these lures are up around 40 or 50 dollars. 8 wakebaits all up, not something I have used much previously. BCF had some great lures there but the savings were not as good. Some Oargee lures at $10 each as well as Predatek. A good price with a saving of about $7 but some of the Megabass lures may have been up to 70% off. Cheers Team Bender Went shopping on the same day as Team Distillete and showed him who was boss!
Some good buys there R.B , Watch out cod! if you want a really heavy duty heavy capacity cast rod find out which rod diesel was using to cast out his dog, the rod was hardly even flexing! and the dog was launched at a high velocity high trajectory long cast judging by the photo!
I'll concede defeat on this occasion, but beware the calm before the storm. Team Diesel ...building up to a full blown shopping frenzy.
Geesus RB looks like that rod will pull the bottom of the river up!!! ... Nice purchase would make a great live baiting rod for big jews, tuna, stickface and kings... What reel you going to put with it?
Daiwa Sol 2 4000. Built like a tank...to stop a tank! Altho I am not anticipating catching a tank! I just wanted a spin rod that can handle some of the swimbaits that I have. I was in the tackle store again this morning looking for the latest freshwater fishing mag which hasn't arrived. Half price Atomic hardbody lures and TT blades. But I behaved myself and walked out with nothing. The only other items I may sucumb to buying is some cheapish rods to use bait fishing. Rods that don't have split grips. Cheers Team Bender
Nice Daiwa RB, I thought you would gave gone bigger like a 6000 or 8000 coz thats a weapon of a rod. Look forwards to seeing some reports and maybe some big green and gold or yellas on the end of that combo
The 4000 balances well on it. I have an extra spool so I will have 30lb braid on one and 20lb mono on the other. I will not be messing with monster fish. More so the rod will handle heavy swimbaits. Likely outcome may be cod no larger than 70 cms! A rod purchased for a particular style of fishing rather than trying to pull up the bottom! Cheers Jim
Purchased separately. A local tackle store got it for me rather cheaper than what I could get it online!
I'm still thinking I need one of these. I took it off the wish-list when I decided to buy a cartop tinny instead, but there hasn't been a tinny made that looks this good. Back on the list again. Team Diesel … loves tackle porn pics.
Two years ago when I first checked out prices they were about $900, now with a decrease in the exchange rate between the Japanese yen and our dollar it is closer to $1200. Even if I was prepared to pay that, they are as rare as hens teeth. A few days ago there was a 5'6" model with the snakeskin handle available in Singapore, but they now list it as 'out of stock'. I would prefer the teak handle with a 6' blank, so it's a matter of hanging in there until they become available again. Jeff
They look the goods, I would like to have a cast of one of those. hey R.B 'I wont be messing whith monster fish" I have never heard anyone ever say they wont be catching big fish that may be a good form of reverse phycology and you will hook a monster, always possible whith cod I have hooked one big "tractor" seemed like 9lb line wasn't bothering it much as It powered off through the weeds and pulled the hook while I was up to my neck in water trying to loosen the locked drag.
No go, didn't find any big schools on the f finder found a lot of bait schools though and tossed a fishtrap dipped in pilchard oil around no definite takes. In the past I have found pilchards the best bait better than live bait. was a good recon mission though and theres always the chance of a Jewie. They may not have moved up the usuall hawksburry river spots yet.
