When I changed the rego of the boat I bought at main roads into my name, the details of the motor were different, so I need the year of it. I think it is a 92 model, but not sure. It's 1:100 mixing ratio. Dark blue in colour.
Check the Number on your motor and you can track the year!!!Thats if nothings been replaced or changed and youv'e lost it! Chicka
Hi Mate Yeah same thing happened to me but never found the exact year.Could place it back to close 1998 Mercury .Reason why I wanted a Workshop Manual firstly and for peace of mind.I mean you can buy a manual covering a period of years and motors, but it isn't as good as a workshop mechanics handbook!!! Chicka
I'll let main roads work it out, as the motor would have had to be rego'd at some stage. Thanks for your help, but I am pretty sure it is earlier than 98 as it does'nt have electric tilt. Townsville Yamaha are useless and expensive so i'll take it to the boat mechanic recomended to me by the fella who licenced me.
Bit of info for you. If u want to determine an engine's year of manufacture, there is a swedish website www.marinshopen.se which is in Swedish but by a bit of intuitive interpretation via the modelguide pulldown menu, a list of all outboards is available. Then simply follow the prompts. Yamaha is listed as also being a "japaneseprodukt mariner". the 6E9 letters on Bluey's motor also appear on 40hp mariners. The FE suffix doesn't appear under any Yamaha models but the F alone does in the 1989 models. The mariner series use the serial number to narrow the year of manufacture. Rocky ron
Hello Bluey Been doing a bit more sniffing around. The Swedish website puts a 40FE Yamaha 6E9 as a 1981 - 1983 model. However, its a bit hard to see how you could be 10 years out in your estimated year of manufacture. The letters you are quoting though don't add up. For example, a C40ELRQ Yammie is a 40 hp electric start, longshaft, remote tiller with Q being the code for 1992. Your data is nothing like that. Give Yamaha in Canada a ring as they will identify the engine for you. They'll take the details and ring u in a couple of days. Their ph number is Canada 416 498 1911 and the number for Yamaha US is 714 761 7300. Just look up the country code in the phone book. The US is 1 so the phone number is then 0011-1-714 761 7300. Don't know what Canada is but 0011 is to ring international out of Australia. Best of luck.
Thanks for your help, my boat mechanic reacons early 80's but motor has been bored out to be a 60hp which explains it's GRUNT. Now I just have to watch my speed
